The Ritz Theatre Summer Camp is instructed by Jaleesa Escott and administered by the Tennessee Valley Art Association. Jaleesa Escott is a graduate of the University of North Alabama. While there, she participated in various groups such as UNA’s vocal jazz and opera/musical theatre program. She attained both her undergraduate and master’s degree in music education from UNA. Miss Escott has worked in her field for the past five years and directed several shows throughout her career, including Honk, A Charlie Brown Christmas, and The Wizard of Oz. She is also working with TVAA and the Ritz for upcoming performances.
During the camp, students will work with Miss Escott on:
Students will get the chance to write, direct, and create a set of their own. Students will work in groups creating a show under the theme of “Fairy Tales Gone Wrong,” where they will learn to put their own spin on classic stories. Each camp cycle will last one week, and students will be able to present their shows to family and friends at the end of each camp.
Parents/guardians will sign their child in at 9AM each morning and pick up from the Ritz at 3PM. Two snacks will be provided. Students will need to bring their own sack lunch. Students should also dress for movement. Sneakers are preferred.
