The Art of Resistance: Documenting Alabama’s Death Row

June 1 @ 10:00 am - June 29 @ 5:00 pm

The Art of Resistance: Documenting AL Death Row is a collaborative effort among AL based Black artists-transforming archival documents from Alabama’s Death Row into a multi and mixed media art exhibit funded by the National Performance Network, with local artist Kerrigan Casey.

The Art of Resistance exposes systemic issues within Alabama’s capital punishment practices, capturing the experiences of the families of people on death row, incarcerated friends, and individuals living on death row. It also serves as a poignant critique of the death penalty, utilizing art’s raw power to challenge its ethical and moral standing. She firmly believes that society and its laws should mirror individuals’ inherent capacity for growth.

Exhibition Hours: Tuesday-Friday 9am-5pm and Saturday 10am-5pm.
Admission: $5 for adults, $3 for students, and free for members of the Tennessee Valley Art Association
