Plein air is the act of painting in the outdoors with a full, open view of your subject, whether it’s a landscape or structure. The Tennessee Valley Art Association welcomes professional artist Amy R. Peterson for an all-day plein air workshop. The workshop will be conducted outdoors, and will feature 2 live demonstrations, one on one instruction, & group critique at the end of day. The workshop is limited to 10 students. Students will need to furnish their own supplies. Students can choose any paint medium, although Amy’s instruction will be geared toward oil. Click here for a PDF of the suggested supply list.

“As an outdoor enthusiast and conservationist, I value plein air painting as an opportunity to document a place in time, on canvas, immersed in the weather, the season, and the uniqueness of each location. I rely greatly on my plein air experience to infuse my studio paintings with light, life, and confident brush work. While I often paint from my own photographic references, painting from life remains my greatest teacher, and it’s at the heart of my approach to teaching.“
